It is the first time that a representative of re-unified Germany assumes this office and only the fifth time in its 80-year history that a women will preside over the United Nations General Assembly.
H.E. Annalena Baerbock outlined her priorities for the time in office in her Vision Statement “Better Together”. During her dialogue with all Member States and representatives of civil society, she pledged “to serve the General Assembly as a team leader in this phase of renewal. The United Nations are currently facing enormous political and financial challenges. During the 80th session of the General Assembly, Member States will discuss necessary reforms to secure a sound future for the UN, building on the UN Pact for the Future and the UN80 initiative by UN Secretary General António Guterres.
