Germany – A Partner for Peace in Haiti

Germany is contributing 10 million Euros to the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti.

Haiti is experiencing a devastating crisis: extreme gang violence has led to a humanitarian emergency. Hundreds of thousands of people have been internally displaced, trying to escape the violence. Over 5 million people are relying on humanitarian assistance to survive. No elections have taken place since 2016, and the country currently has no elected representation.

In October 2022, the Haitian government asked the international community for support to restore security and safety in the country. The United Nations Security Council granted this support in its resolution 2699 (2022) and established a Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in October 2023. Led by Kenya, the MSS needs resolute support by the international community to fulfill its mandate to restore public order and security, reduce violence, secure infrastructure and bring the country back to its path of elections and a democratic transition. 

Germany has contributed 10 million Euros to the Multinational Security Support Mission. By supporting the MSS, Germany joins the efforts of the international community to support Haiti on its path to peace, democracy and sustainable development. The MSS is a prime example of South-South cooperation. Germany is a reliable partner for the Caribbean and a strong advocate for multinational efforts to ensure peace and stability where needed. Only when the international community works together can we end conflicts and crises once and for all.  

The violence in Haiti must come to an end. The population needs hope for a better future. As an expression of international solidarity, the MSS can bring this hope. It is our commitment to sustainable peace and a better future for all.
