Shaping the Future of Blue Helmet Missions: Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025

05/28/2025

A key moment during the Berlin 2025 Peacekeeping Ministerial was the announcement of 74 member states’ pledges for UN peacekeeping. Germany, in line with its reliable commitment to diplomacy and multilateralism, pledged more than 80 million Euros for various peacekeeping projects, including training measures and capabilities development for troop and police contributing countries.

As host of the Berlin Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025, Germany welcomed the UN Secretary General, ministers and senior officials from 135 UN member states, regional and international organizations as well as civil society, all committed to advancing peacekeeping operations in support of long-term stability. The Berlin conference provided a critical platform for member states to contribute to the future of UN peacekeeping, an essential instrument for global peace and security. In a rapidly changing world marked by complex conflicts and evolving threats, the Peacekeeping Ministerial offered a unique opportunity to reflect on and shape the international community’s approach to peacekeeping.

The discussions spanned a range of topics: from the role of technology for enhancing the safety of peacekeepers, to strengthening the cooperation between the UN and regional and subregional organizations. Crucially, the agenda also placed a strong emphasis on proactive, sustainable and comprehensive peacebuilding efforts that include host communities and put special focus on the needs of women, youth and other marginalized groups.

For Germany, hosting the Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025 was a key contribution to strengthening the United Nations and advancing global peace and stability.
